Winn Dixie Celebration

Our class finished reading Because of Winn Dixie. What a great book! To celebrate we had a Winn Dixie picnic and watched the movie of the book. It is always interesting to see what changes are make in the plot and in charters between a book and the movie.

Just like in the book we had egg salad sandwiches, pickles and dump punch. It was great fun!

Hoot Hoot here is what's happening in third grade this week:

Religion: The second unit in religion is the Holy Spirit Blesses the Church; this week we learn about the Holy Spirit.

English: Predicates and compound sentences, unit 1 review

Writing: Flat Stanley writing

Reading: This week we have a literacy circle. We will all be reading Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown. There are many fun activities  that go with this book.

Spelling: Review test of words from the past 5 weeks. Spelling tests are every Friday. We will have 20 review words.

Social Studies: Types of communities

Science: The Sun and Moon and the Seasons

What we are Reading

We finished the book Because of Winn Dixie. Friday we had a Winn Dixie party and watched the movie to celebrate. We discussed how the movie characters and the plot were the same and different from the book.

 Our read aloud book for this month will be a fantasy; Charlotte’s Web.

Our memory for this week:

A big thank you to all the parents that came to Open House night. It is always good to have you in our classroom and see where all the fun takes place everyday.

Reading: This week’s story is Non fiction; The Olympic Games Where Heroes are Made

Spelling: words have the st and str blend sound. Spelling tests are every Friday. We will have 15 words, 2 challenge words and 3 words from the week before (20 words).

Social Studies: Types of communities

Science: unit 2; Plants and Animals

Our read aloud book each month will be from a different literature genre. This month we are reading the realistic fiction book, Because of Winn- Dixie.

Whooo's Ready For Third Grade?

The theme for Third Grade this year is the" Wise Owls".

 

We are off to a great start in grade 3. We have learned some facts about real owls as we have been getting to know each other. One of the favorite places in our classroom is the reading corner. This class loves to read!

 Hear is what's happening in Grade 3 this week:

Religion: The first unit in religion is; God and His word; this week we learn about growing in our faith.

English: Subjects and predicates

Writing: Writing a descriptive paragraph.

Reading: This week’s story is; Realistic Fiction, Allie’s Basketball Dream

Spelling: words have the long vowel i and long o. Spelling tests are every Friday. We will have 15 words, 2 challenge words and 3 words from the week before (20 words).

Social Studies: Our first unit is Communities, same and different, and communities far and near. We have a test on this unit Thursday.

Science: We will have a test on the first unit on Friday.

Back to school night is Tues. Sept 11, 6:30—8. I will give an overview of third grade and hopefully answer any questions you have about this year.
